Description:
The 2can Bioinformatics site is a teaching and
training resource of the European
Bioinformatics Institute (EBI). This site provides
short and concise introductions to basic concepts in molecular and cell biology
and bioinformatics. The main emphasis is placed on making it as easy as
possible for the user to understand which tools and databases are available
from the EBI and from sites belonging to its collaborators. The site content
aims to make these services easier and more accessible but also provides links
to other sites where similar resources are maintained and well supported. It
lists Bibliographic Databases , Taxonomic Databases , Nucleotide Databases , Genomic Databases , Protein Databases , and Microarray Databases .
Strengths:
Simple and easy to use. Provides a lot of basic
material for the beginner in the field and may especially appeal to clinicians
and researchers seeking to apply this knowledge in a translational context.
Weaknesses:
Targets the novice and not the expert. However has a
link from the Expasy bioinformatics
team in Switzerland for information resources for molecular biologists.
Comprehensiveness:
Reasonable
Timeliness: frequently (not specified)
Ease of Use:
good
Responsiveness: yes
