Review of SYFPEITHI

Title:  SYFPEITHI (Version 1.0)

URL:  http://syfpeithi.bmi-heidelberg.com/

Date Reviewed: 05/21/02

Description:  This is a database containing peptide sequences known to bind Class I and Class II MHC molecules, compiled from published reports.

Epitope Prediction: Uses an algorithm to pick out possible peptide epitopes from a given protein sequence in the context of a specified MHC.

Find Motif: Identifies peptide motifs that are predicted to bind specified MHC molecules. It lets you specify the source and length of peptide and anchor residues. There’s also a provision to look among cancer-related ligands.

Strengths: Facilitates the search for peptides and allows for the prediction of T-cell epitopes. Some of these algorithms are in use but there are hardly any sites that run them for you against a database of published information.

Weaknesses:

Comprehensiveness:  Quite comprehensive – has a list of ~3500 peptide sequences and MHCs from human, mouse, chicken and other species.

Timeliness:  Good

Ease of Use: Good

Responsiveness: Good
